Someone asked that I do a review of Nat "King" Cole en Español. So, to show that I care, I did.
For anyone who reads this and who doesn't know what a Crooner is watch this (you should watch it anyway since its a classic).
I'll get the fact that I know Spanish fluently out of way and begin with the worst part of the album, his accent. Now, a spanish accent in english can sound sexy or retarded. At least they have a chance to be sexy. There is nothing attractive about a Gringo accent. Absolutely nothing. And Nat has one.
With that said...His voice is still one of the sexiest I've ever heard. I mean...you don't get this kind of music anymore in the States. Partially because we're a xenophobic culture, but I digress. If you don't understand the lyrics to this work, find someone who knows spanish, take them out to dinner and have them read it to you. They're that good. OR, you could not worry about the lyrics cause the tones and notes tell the story all by themselves.
Okay, one other bit, if you don't know what Ranchero is...consider yourself lucky (or go watch THIS right now). There are a few of these kinds of songs on there and those are the ones where he gets his Spanish right, cause there are back-up singers.
The dice lands on a 9 out of 10 for this album. It really is something from a bygone era that has been beaten down by This stuff. The accent might bother some, but it is easily ignored.
