Life of Pi...ends with dessert

I know this movie is based off a book, which I have not read. Most authors get afraid that a movie will ruin the book, twist the significance, the metaphor, the hidden message that is best received through seeing the written word itself. Although, some books are only enhanced by a film, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis being one of them. I will say this though about this novel turned movie...it is art.

I recently read Midnight's Children by Salmon Rushdie. The narrative and plot weaving were masterful. I saw this again in Life of Pi. The characters are realistic and relate-able. More than once did my heart go out to Pi and all of his plights. The cinematography is wonderfully done. It was a treat for the eyes   The CG, if/when you can tell it's even going on, is so wonderfully done that you're not sure at some points if it is a real Tiger or not (and that is a deeper question still, you'll get it once you see the movie). It was wonderfully acted and scripted.

The roll of the dice give the film a 9/10. It's wonderful, artistic, and a showcase for film as a medium of art. It just tends to drag in a few spots.
